CHINESE SOCCER

Type of the game:
Sport game

Group size:
For larger groups (around ten at both sides) + referee

Where to play
This game should be played in a gym but it is also possible to play it at some outside field.

Rules:
At the beginning players divide into two teams and in that teams into two groups.
First group of each team defend the goal, which is the entire wall behind them. Second group (around five players from each team) comes to center court. Their aim is to make the ball hit the wall behind the guards of the opposite team.

The guarding group along the wall must continue to hold hands as they defend their wall against the oncoming ball. They defend by kicking the ball away while still holding hands.
A goal is scored if the ball hits the wall behind the defenders at knee level or below, or if the defenders break their grip on each other in order to kick the ball away. If the ball hits wall at higher than knee level, there is no score and no penalty for breaking grip.
The center players can hit the ball only with their fists, and stop it with any part of their bodies. They cannot pick it up. They have to play it where it lies, which is usually close to the floor.

Body-contact is limited (as in basketball). The referee may give free shots on goal as the penalty for rough play or personal fouls.
These rules mean that the center players spend much of their time bent over at the waist so they can reach the ball. When the referee calls change,” the centre players join one end of the defending line and the next five players from the other end of the defending line come to the center.

Tips:
For the center players, it is very physically demanding, so they should rotate out every three to five minutes. This game requires a large group of people and has the advantage of keeping them all in play at once. The game could be really active so the referee should watch out carefully and calm more aggressive players to pretend any injury.

Reflection:

People got into game very quickly because it does not require any special skills. It is suitable for everybody and it doesn’t give any bigger advantage to usual sport players. It requires two forms of team work: one in the field, similar to the other ball games, and second as the guards, where people need to cooperate to protect the whole wall.

SUITY HERO

Type of the game:
Team-building game

Purpose:
This game was aimed to evolve soft skills of the players and to show them how important the cooperation is, even while competing.

Group Size:
15-40, we were 24

Time Required
It is quite variable game, but at least 1 hour is required. But sometimes the game duration can be about 5 hours. We played for about an hour.

Materials:
It is also really variable and it depends on the time you have and on fantasy of the leader. We used:
-          5 flags divided into 5 pieces
-          5x paper with instructions
-          21x fictional money
-          15x permission to visit another country
-          5x president cetificate
-          sellotape
-          sunglasses
-          5x symbol for water
-          5x symbol for the first part of a candle
-          5x symbol for the second part of a candle
-          5x secret object

Process:
The group of 25 players divided into 5 teams. Each participant had to draw a piece of paper, which  was actually a part of some flag. Then, participants needed to find players who have the other parts of their flag. Every flag had 5 pieces.
Every team became a government of one country. They just had to find the instructions for their country and the game could start. On the instruction paper, there was written:
Welcome on a continent called Suity Hero! There are five countries: Aenie, Chateria, Tasimia, Lowmaland and Quertuum. The previous seven years, a terrible war was waged between these five countries, each of them fought against each other. The terrors of war has gone, but the whole continent is terribly destroyed now. There are really serious problems: some countries do not have water, others lack energy, material or money.
The teams had to understand the situation really quickly, because they had many work to do. Each country had another material, but the tasks were the same for all of them. It was:
-          To unite a flag with sellotape
-          To stand a chair, but to touch it, there was a need of sunglasses
-          To get two different pieces of candle
-          To get water
-          To choose a president of their country
-          To find a key to keep a piece: the most important task
Every country had a flag, 3x permission to visit another country, a president certificate and a secret object. But every country had something extra:
Aenie: sunglasses, 2x first part of candle, 100,-
Chateria: sellotape, 2x second part of candle, 2x water, 100,-
Tasimia: 1x first part of candle, 1000,-
Quertuum: 3x second part of candle, 600,-
Lowmaland: 3x water, 2x first part of candle, 300,-
The complication was the Committee, which controled the players and leaned on following the rules. The players from different countries could meet just when they have a permission, while they are playing, they could not even talk to the other members of government, they had to pay for the permission. Another complication could be a virus, which destroys their job, but we did not use it.
The most important were the secret objects. In every object, there was a hint, which should show the players the key to find the peace. It was actually easy, but to find a key was the last task the players should do. In the first secret object there was: 1PA, in the second 2RT, in the third one 3NE, in the fourth one 4RS and in the fifth one 5HIP, so together, the word was partnership, which means that the only task and the only aim of the game was to learn cooperation.

Reflection:
The game should simulate the situation which was in Europe after the Second World War. In the beginning, everyone was really confused, some countries did not want to cooperate some of them were richer, some of them had almost nothing. After the game, players realized that this all things were on purpose and they were quite satisfied, because in the end, everyone was able to find the key to keep the peace.

What did we learn:

It was not just cooperation, the players learned to negotiate, to trade, to decide quickly.

SAR (Search and reacue)

Type of the game:  Simulation game

Aim of the game:
To see how people act in critical situations
To evolve teamwork

Participants gain:
Teamwork skills
Communication skills
Knowledge about helping the others
Accepting other ideas
Learn when and how to take responsibility

Game description and intriduction:
So...imagine that there has been a really terrible catastrophie in this house and there has been a really bad cave-in in the next room. So the room is not the same as it was and as you rememeber. Something can fall or broke and so on.. But also there are 3 victims in the next room and your mission is to help them and save them because you are the closest people to them and you are here right now.  The victims over there are still alive but they can’t talk or move, so they can not  help you at all. They are just laying somewhere and you have to find them and save them. You have to bring them here.
To save them, you have one blanket, one helmet and one sleepingbag. So if you have found the victim you have to put on a helmet, them put the victim into sleepingbag and then put him/her on the blanket and bring him/her out from there.  But remember.. you have only one helmet, one blanket and one sleepingbag but you have 3 victims. So you have to use these things wisely and you can’t lose them after you have saved one victim.

And to make it more interesting and harder...you can not see, talk or stand up because it is too dangerous. You have to crawl or walk like dog (hands and knees on the floor). If you break the rules it can happen that yourself is the next victim. So there will be 4 victims..not 3 anymore.. so be sure that you don’t break the rules!

So the game starts when I say start! And it ends when all the victims are outside and also when all the room is empty (it includes the victims and all af you).

Rememeber – you cannot talk or see while you are trying to rescue the victims. Now I give you 15minutes to figure out your strategy how to do that. Start talking!

15mins later: Okay , your time is up and stop talking! I will close your eyes now and I help you to the door. Then I will say start when you are allowed to begin.

Reflection:
After the game there will be 3-steps feedback:
1) Firstly – to explain your emotions. Just say with only one word how are you feeling right now/ what is your emotion.  (then we are trying to talk about these words or figure out why somebody said ’’funny’’ or whatever else)

2) Secondly – watching the video. If somebody wants to ask/comment/say something yo have to sau STOP! And then you can talk.  (What are you thinking right now?/  What are you doing there? / What was your purpose?/ How did you feel?/ Why did you act like this?)

3) And for the last thing we will try to find out what did you learn and can you take something with you. Or was there something what you can use in your future life? Why/How?

Extra notes:
When you are taking video about the players, YOU CANNOT SAY THAT YOU ARE FILMING!!! It must be a surprise for players later. Otherwise the game loses its point!

To play this game, you need at least  5-6 persons in gameleading/ prepareing group and 10-30 persons to play the game.
In details: 1 person for taking a video
     3 persons to be victims
1 person to talk with the players, introduce the game and rules (gameleader)
(1 person to watch after the players that they won’t hit their head or injure        themselves)

Equipment you need: One blanket, one sleepingbag and one helmet.  Also one videocamera and three blankets or yogamats for the victims (for not being cold on the floor).

ROPE DROPPINGS

Type of the game:
Adventure activity
Purpose:
1. Accept challenges
2. Overcome fears
3. Come out of your comfort zone
Group Size:
Average 15-20 people on the bridge.
Time Required
For 20 people with two rope dropping track, the activity takes about 1,5 hours.
Materials:
For rope dropping, it is important that you have professionals, who can make the tracks. Person, who is going down from bridge, needs to wear helmet, harness and gloves. Also he/she needs to be attached to two ropes, which is tied to bridge.
Process:
Before rope dropping, it is good to do briefing with participants. In briefing it is important to ask, what participants think about the activity, what their emotions. You can use different ways to carry out a briefing. Example, I made one circle with ropes, where two of the rope endings were loose. Passing the rope on, when someone got the loose ending, then he/she could talk.
Rope dropping itself can be done in different places. We dropped from bridge. For leader, it is important to see how participants are acting turning the activity and act according what leaders sees. To courage participants, who scares heights or calm down panicking participants. Also the leader receives always help from professionals.
After rope dropping, when there is time, it is good to do debriefing, where you should use same method.

Reflection:
 Turning debriefing, leader should focus:
1. How participant’s emotions have been changed comparing briefing?
2. How are those feeling who didn’t go down from bridge?
3. What was the hardest thing to overcome?
4. What should be different to improve?
When doing reflection in rope dropping, leader should pay attention, what participants are saying and ask questions according what leader hears.

What did we learn:

I learned to overcome my fears. My biggest fear was explaining the rules in english. Although I have done rope dropping lots of times before, in english, there is always risk that someone can’t understand.

SLOW EMOTION GAME

Type of the game: Impro game
Aim of the game: To unleash imagination and make performance in total spontaneity and improvisation
Participants gain:
            values:
·         encourages creativity;
·         improves comunication;
·         artistic, educational, and leadership values;
·         improves intonation.
            skills:
Imaginative, fast thinking, be relaxed and not afraid of messing up, great acting skills, be generous, improves body language, express emotions
            knowledge: how to make performances

Game description: Create teams of 5 people. While one team is playing others are audience. Given task to team: three participants step onto the stage and are performing given example of competition which can be different (for example floor cleaning, horse riding, tea making, pizza eating, sauna going and other competitions) in very slow movements while 2 others are loudly commenting what they are showing. These three participants are making competition between them. Performance time: 1 minute. After that audience says who won. Kind of sport is given to the team on the spot and they have to react immediately. Participants have no time to prepare.

Reflaction: Participants were very imaginative and made performances imediately. They realized that as more difficult kind of competition is given as more time they need to prepare. After the game can conclude that the less details are given to participants, the better because this allows their imaginations to construct situations and ensures richer dynamics. From the game you can learn that sometiomes you don’t need to think a lot before doing because when we are thinking too much, we are making things and situations more complex. Sometimes with spontaneous actions we get better results and good emotions.
