TYPE: role-playing game
AIM: The aim of this game is to show us how important communication is. Even if you are conversing with someone who does not speak your native language, you can still find a way to communicate. It also shows us how important team work is, and that working in a team can give faster and better results.
PARTICIPANTS WILL GAIN:
.... VALUES: respect for others, team work
.... SKILLS: how to communicate with others non verbally and breaking language barriers
... KNOWLEDGE: seeing how other people use non verbal communication so you can improve your own
DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME:
Before the game:
Preperations for this game are quite simple. We need to split the players into groups (2-5 groups preferably) with around 4-5 participants in each group. Then we need to give out cards to each group.
Instructions:
After we have split the players into groups and gave them their cards, the game can start. The cards are devided into 4 categories;
sports, cities, professions and things. In each category of cards there are 5-8 different terms that the group has to guess.
The players in the group divide themselves in a way that one of them is a guesser and others are describers. The describers job is to non verbally describe the term on the card that they have picked, while the guesser needs to guess it. After the guesser answers correctly, the roles are changed so that another person takes the role of the guesser. The role exchange is usually done clock wise.
REFLECTION:
The game was taken verry well, everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves while playing. Since there was no verbal communication in this game,even the people that don´t usually speak out seemed to enjoy themselves because the point of this game is non verbal communication and mime.
EXTRA NOTES:
This game is very easy and cheap to set up as it doesn´t require using any props. All you need a pack of sticky notes, or regular ones, on which you will write the terms. The sticky notes can preferably be in different colors, so that each color represents one category.
