TALK SHOW EXPERT

TYPE: IMPRO, DRAMA GAMES

AIM: The aim of this game is to get people out of their comfort zone by communicating with others and speaking infront of others.
It also builds self-confidence, focus, communication and problem solving  skills.

PARTICIPANTS WILL GAIN:
.... VALUES: self-awareness, self-confidence, empathy for others
.... SKILLS: communication skills, speaking infront of others, problem solving skills, quick thinking
... KNOWLEDGE: this game teaches you how to speak but also how to listen, how to lead a conversation but also how to follow one

DESCRIPTION OF THE GAME:

Before the game:
Basically all you need for this game is good will. Depending on how many people are participating you might want to have a little
more comfortable environment, which should include at least chairs for all the participants.

Instructions:
As this game belongs to the Talk Show genre, the main participants are the Host of the show and his Guest (The Expert). Unlike
some other variations of Talk Show games, this one is not supposed to be taken too seriously, and it´s topics should be silly
and fun. The Host and the Expert sit on chairs infront of the audience. The Host´s job is to throw the focus on the Expert, and
the Expert´s job is to take the focus and improvise the story as it goes. The Host can make up a name of their show, and also
a silly song or a jingle to introduce the show. For example, the Host introduces :“Welcome to the Karate Chop Show!
Today we’re here with Billy, who’s an expert on teaching pigs how to do karate. Tell us more Billy..."
The Expert then has to go along with whatever the host has made up. (Remember, the Expert knows everything and whatever they say,
no matter how outrageous, it is always right.). After the initial interview the host will take questions from the audience
for the expert to answer (this way more people get to participate, and students who are more shy get to shine for a moment
as they work their way up to try out being experts or hosts.)

REFLECTION:
After the initial ice breaking round of the game, more and more people started participating in the game. Whether by being in
the audience or by trying out the roles of the Host and the Expert. At first it seemed as only the people who have usually been
the most active would participate, but after a few rounds some of the participants that usually didn´t get involved as much got
a little more relaxed and started participating.

EXTRA NOTES:
This game can be tricky to pull off because some people find it very difficult to get out of their comfort zones infront of
strangers, or other people in general. And if you try to push them out of it, some of them might just shut down and you won´t
be able to reach them and get them involved. But also if there aren´t any talkative and relaxed people participating,
it would be almost impossible to get the lesser active people to join without forcing them.
